Bone and joint tuberculosis is a chronic
infection caused by Mycobacterium. It occurs mainly in the spine and
also in knee, hip and elbow.
Symptoms
The symptoms of bone & joint tuberculosis include
- - Localized pain associated with fever
- - Weight loss.
- - In case of spine T.B. patient may suffer from
Truncal rigidity, muscle spasm and Neurological signs may be present

- - Biopsy
Treatment
- - Anti Tuberculosis Drugs
- - Surgery
Synovectomy:- is a surgical removal
of the inflamed joint
Osteotomy:- is a procedure in
which surgeon removes a wedge of bone near a damaged joint
Arthrodesis:- is a surgical
fixation of the joint resulting in bone fusion
Arthroplasty:- is the operation
for construction of a new movable joint. It is not applicable to
every joint in practice its use is almost confined to the
shoulder, the elbow, the hip, the knee, certain joints in the
hand, and the metatarso-phalangeal joints in the foot.
